What this site is
The Divide is a small, independently written guide comparing New Zealand's North and South Islands. The site offers no bookings, accounts, or payments of any kind — the only interactive features are a contact form and the homepage's Leaning Compass widget, which runs entirely in your browser and sends nothing to us.
What we collect and why
If you use the contact form, we store the name, email address and message you provide, solely so we can reply to you. The Leaning Compass does not transmit your answers anywhere — your choices only update figures already loaded on the page, and are forgotten when you leave or refresh it.
Cookies and local storage
This site runs no advertising or analytics trackers and sets no tracking cookies. It uses localStorage — a browser storage mechanism, not a cookie in the traditional sense — solely to remember that you've dismissed the cookie notice, so it doesn't reappear on your next visit. You can clear this at any time through your browser's site-data settings.
Third-party sharing
We do not sell, rent or share contact-form submissions with any third party. Facts described about each destination are drawn from publicly available sources; we have no data-sharing relationship with any airline, ferry operator, accommodation provider or attraction named on this site.
Data retention
Contact-form submissions are retained only as long as needed to respond to your enquiry and are not kept indefinitely.
Your rights
You can request a copy of any information we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by emailing us via the contact form.
Children's privacy
This site is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated from time to time as the site changes; the "last updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
